Over 500 fans dressed in red and white cheered on Marcin Gortat - the only Polish player in the NBA - as the Washington Wizards took on the Chicago Bulls this past Saturday, April 5. Poland's Ambassador to the United States Ryszard Schnepf was the honorary patron of this first ever Polish Heritage Night in the US capital.

Among the guests invited by Marcin Gortat who received a warm welcome at the Verizon Center were Polish veterans of military deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

During the Polish Heritage Night, fans could count on numerous attractions in addition to the Wizards basketball game. Contests, a special performance by the Polish cheerleader group Flex Sopot from Sopot, Poland and Polish music combined with roaring Polish fans to create a truly unique and great atmosphere for the Wizard's Polish Heritage Night.

The event also provided fans an opportunity to meet Marcin Gortat, both during the pregame warm up as well as after the game during a special meet and greet. Polish fans had a chance to take part in free throw and three point shooting contests, the winner of which received an autographed Gortat Wizard's jersey. Fans also had a chance to take pictures with the Wizard's starting center, and ask him of his future career plans.

"Regardless of how tired I feel during the game, when I hear Polish fans cheering me on and waving red and white colors, I push to give not 100% but 110% of myself" proclaimed Gortat, thanking fans for, "showing tonight how proud we are to have Polish heritage!"

The Polish Heritage Night was organized by Marcin Gortat's MG13 foundation as well as the Washington DC based American Polish Forum.
